How do we calculate the result?

The scoring is based on the same WiFi signal physics we cover in our guides: signal weakens with distance, number of storeys, and the thickness of obstacles in its path, and some materials (especially concrete and reinforced concrete) attenuate it far more than others. The more of these factors stack up in your case, the higher the score and the more likely a dead zone somewhere in your home.

This tool gives an estimate, not a measurement. The only way to know exactly how WiFi behaves in a specific home is to measure the signal room by room — we cover that in how to check WiFi coverage at home. Term definitions are in our WiFi glossary.

FAQ

Does this calculator replace an actual signal measurement?

No. It's a quick, approximate risk assessment based on typical factors affecting WiFi. Only measuring the signal in each room gives you the full picture.

What should I do if the result shows high risk?

First check whether you can move the router to a more central, open spot. If that's not enough, consider an extra Mesh point in the location furthest from the router.

Does a low result mean I definitely don’t have dead zones?

It's not a 100% guarantee — even a favourable layout can have local issues, e.g. from metal furniture or interfering devices. A low score means lower probability, not certainty.
