A 150 m² home may work perfectly with one router, while another 150 m² home may require several access points.

Where should you place a mesh node?

A common mistake is placing a mesh node in the dead zone itself.

A better rule is:

> Place the mesh node between the main router and the area you want to cover, where the node can still maintain a good connection to the rest of the network.

How do you check WiFi coverage throughout your home?

Do not test WiFi only next to the router.

Walk through the home and check:

  • download and upload speed,
  • connection stability,
  • latency,
  • areas where devices disconnect.

Map the results onto a floor plan if possible. This makes it much easier to understand whether the problem is caused by distance, walls or poor access-point placement.

What is WiFi signal strength and RSSI?

WiFi signal strength is commonly displayed in dBm as a negative number.
